Spaced repetition is a scientifically-proven learning technique that schedules reviews at optimal intervals for long-term memory retention. VerbPal uses the SM-2 algorithm—the same proven method used by top learning apps—to show you verbs right before you're about to forget them, making your study time incredibly efficient.

VerbPal offers 5 distinct exercise types to keep your learning dynamic and effective:

  • Meaning Questions — "What does this verb mean?" Multiple choice questions to build your vocabulary
  • Translation Questions — "How do you say [word] in [language]?" Practice translating verbs into your target language
  • Conjugation Questions — Complete the conjugation for specific tenses and grammatical persons
  • Fill-in-the-Blank — Complete sentences with the correct conjugated verb form in context
  • Listening Exercises — Identify pronunciations of conjugated verb forms to train your ear

Every day, VerbPal features a new "Verb of the Day" to expand your learning beyond your regular practice sessions. Tap "Discover" to explore interesting facts, usage examples, and cultural context about that day's featured verb. It's a fun way to learn something new each time you open the app!

Each verb progresses through six mastery levels based on your performance:

New You haven't studied this verb yet
Learning Just getting started, reviewing frequently
Familiar You're getting the hang of it
Comfortable Solid recall with occasional review
Strong Great retention, less frequent reviews needed
Mastered Long-term memory achieved!

VerbPal covers all major tenses for each language, including:

  • Present tense
  • Past tenses (preterite, imperfect, etc.)
  • Future tense
  • Conditional
  • Subjunctive moods
  • And more depending on the language

VerbPal includes high-quality text-to-speech pronunciation for all verbs and conjugations across all 10 supported languages. Simply tap the speaker icon next to any verb or conjugated form to hear it pronounced. During listening exercises, audio plays automatically (if enabled in Settings) to help you train your ear. It's a great way to improve your pronunciation alongside mastering conjugations!

Yes! VerbPal clearly marks irregular verbs and tracks them separately. You can filter your verb list to focus specifically on irregular verbs, which often require extra practice.

You can set a daily exercise goal during onboarding—choose from 5, 10, 15, or 20 exercises per day based on your schedule. The app tracks your practice sessions and helps you maintain a learning streak. Don't worry, you can change this target anytime in Settings! Consistent daily practice—even just 10-15 minutes—leads to the best long-term results.

Your streak counts consecutive days of meeting your learning goal, marked by the flame icon in your profile. Maintaining a streak helps build a daily habit and keeps you motivated. Lexi gets extra excited when you hit streak milestones—she loves celebrating your dedication! Don't worry, we'll send you friendly reminders (if enabled) to help keep your streak alive.

Every exercise you complete earns you 10 XP, helping you level up and track your overall progress. There are 8 user levels to climb:

  • Beginner (0 XP) — Just getting started
  • Word Learner (100 XP) — Building foundations
  • Phrase Builder (300 XP) — Gaining momentum
  • Verb Explorer (600 XP) — Finding your rhythm

  • Fluent Talker (1,500 XP) — Impressive progress!
  • Language Pro (2,500 XP) — Nearly there!

  • Total verbs learned and mastered
  • Current streak and best streak
  • Accuracy percentage across all exercises
  • Breakdown by language and tense
  • Verbs due for review today

The colored dots you see next to verbs represent their mastery level, giving you a quick visual snapshot of your progress. Each verb displays a dot (or dots) colored according to its level: brown for New (level 0), orange for Learning (level 1), yellow for Familiar (level 2), light green for Comfortable (level 3), teal for Strong (level 4), and blue for Mastered (level 5). You'll also see red or orange dots indicating verbs that are overdue for review—tackle those first to keep your knowledge fresh!

Absolutely! VerbPal's Analytics dashboard gives you deep insights into your learning patterns. You can view weekly exercise counts, track your accuracy trends over the past 6 weeks, see performance breakdowns by exercise type, and identify areas where you might need extra practice. It's like having a personal coach analyzing your progress and helping you optimize your study sessions!

Absolutely! VerbPal shows you how many verbs are due for review and makes it easy to jump into a focused review session. Staying on top of reviews is key to moving verbs from short-term to long-term memory.

Go to your Profile tab, then Settings. You can switch your active learning language or add additional languages to study multiple languages simultaneously.

Your UI language controls the interface—menus, buttons, and instructions. VerbPal supports 5 UI languages: English, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish. Your learning language is the language you're studying verb conjugations for. We support 10 learning languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, English, German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, and Ukrainian. Verb translations in exercises always appear in your UI language, so if you're a Dutch speaker learning Spanish, you'll see "hablar" translated as "spreken"!

Yes! In Settings, you can enable daily practice reminders and choose your preferred notification time (the default is 6 PM). VerbPal will send you a friendly nudge to keep your learning consistent—but don't worry, we skip the reminder if you've already met your daily goal! You can also enable optional weekly summary notifications that arrive on Sundays to review your progress.

Yes, you can reset your progress for any language. Go to Profile → Settings → Reset Current Language Progress. You'll be asked to confirm since this action permanently erases all your mastery levels, XP, and review history for that language. Don't worry—your progress in other languages won't be affected, and you can always start fresh if you want to revisit the fundamentals!

To delete your VerbPal account and all associated data, go to Settings and select "Delete Account." Please note this action is permanent and cannot be undone.

VerbPal's verb data is cached locally on your device, so you can browse verb lists and conjugation tables offline. However, completing exercises and saving your progress requires an internet connection to sync with our servers. This ensures your progress is always backed up and accessible across all your devices!

VerbPal uses a progressive unlocking system based on the experience level you set during onboarding (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). This helps prevent overwhelm by introducing more complex tenses gradually as you build confidence. You can change your experience level anytime in Settings to unlock additional verb forms and tenses when you're ready to tackle them!

Ensure you have a stable internet connection. VerbPal syncs automatically, but you can force a refresh by closing and reopening the app. If problems persist, please contact our support team.
